A Tradition of Service...A Legacy of Reform

A longtime Philadelphia resident, Bill was born and raised a block from Frankford High School and moved to the northwest section of the City when he was thirteen. The tradition of public service is deep and strong in Bill's family: his father served our city as Mayor and as a Congressman, as well as a ward leader and Chair of Democratic City Committee. Bill's grandfather, also a Congressman and Chair of Democratic City Committee, is widely credited with turning Philadelphia from a Republican stronghold into the Democratic town that it is today.

Bill's family taught him early in life to place public service over self-service and the importance of doing what is right.

Locally educated, Bill graduated from Penn Charter and attended St. Joseph's University before graduating from Auburn University. He obtained his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bill began his political career at an early age by distributing literature and working outside of polling places. In 1991, Bill helped write policy for then Philadelphia Mayoral candidate Ed Rendell. He was a volunteer for Joe Kohn's campaign for Attorney General in 1996. While living in Georgia he worked on the State Senate campaign of a young Democrat and assisted with a Democratic candidate running for County Commissioner.

An Experienced, Independent Leader

Bill has what it takes to be a leader on City Council. As a business lawyer he is used to negotiating solutions to complex problems and creating consensus to get things done. He is currently of counsel at the law firm Pepper Hamilton. He served as President of Vista Scape Security Systems and was an options and futures trader in Europe and New York. His unique combination of business and managerial experience will help bring fiscal responsibility and jobs back to Philadelphia.

An Advocate for Philadelphia's Families

Having lived and worked in London, Amsterdam, New York and Atlanta, Bill and his wife Margie chose to move back to Philadelphia, the nation's first and next great city. They have two children, Avery and William. Bill's unique combination of leadership and commitment to reform will help clean up Philadelphia government and put the people of our great city first.
